Canna ‘Zulu Apricot Nectar’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; dark foliage, ovoid shaped, branching habit; flowers are open, self-coloured apricot, staminodes are large, edges regular, style is yellow, petals red, fully self-cleaning, average bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is good.

Canna ‘Zulu Best Friends’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; bronze foliage, ovoid shaped, maroon margin, spreading habit; flowers are open, self-coloured red, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, petals purple, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in July until frosts in northern temperate zone, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is good.

On 4 July 2005, Mrs Marcelle Sheppard visited her best friend Mrs Margie Brown, and between them they decided on names for two of Mrs Sheppard’s recent canna hybrids. The first is green leafed, with long scapes of orange blossoms, practically ever-blooming, and this will be called CannaOrange County, Texas’. This is in recognition of Marcelles’ own home county, and the second which has good red foliage, with red flowers is to be named Canna ‘Zulu Best Friends’. The latter name is in recognition of their own long and trusted friendship.

Marcelle Sheppard names two new cultivars

Today, Mrs Marcelle Sheppard visited her best friend Margie Brown and between them they decided on names for two of Mrs Sheppard’s recent canna hybrids.
The first is green leafed, with long scapes of orange blossoms, practically ever-blooming, and this will be called CannaOrange County, Texas’. The second which is has good red foliage, with red flowers is to be named Canna ‘Zulu Best Friends’.
