Canna ‘Golden Lucifer’

(Crozy Group)

Height Small
Foliage Green
Form Branching
Flower Yellow
Blooming Good bloomer
Tillering Average

Canna ‘Golden Lucifer’ is a small Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, oval shaped, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stems, coloured green; flowers are open, gold heavily spotted with red, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, petals yellow, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white; tillering is average.

Appeared first in US catalogues in the 1990’s. This is probably a rebranding of an older cultivar(s), and the old Wintzer classic ‘Gladiator’ springs to mind.

The stock seems to vary between sellers and it may well be that there are several different varieties being marketed in the USA as ‘Golden Lucifer’.
