Canna Series

In botany and plant taxonomy, a series is a subdivision of a genus, a taxonomic rank below that of section (and subsection) but above that of species.

The term “series” is also used for groupings of cultivars, but this term has no formal status with that meaning in the ICNCP.

The number of ‘series’ utilised in canna marketing is in double figures, and the editor did contemplate treating them as cultivar groups, but they were in existence long before the ICNCP and therefore we cater for them as a separate entity, with the proviso that they there is no implied genetic relationships between series members, and they are simply a useful marketing instrument.
