Canna ‘Imagination’ is a small Crozy Group cultivar; dark green foliage, large, oval shaped, white margin, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stems, coloured green; clusters of flowers are open, red-orange with a narrow gold margin, staminodes are large, edges irregular, petals purple with farina, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is average.

Canna ‘Independence’ is a medium sized Conservatory Group cultivar; green foliage, ovoid shaped, transparent margin, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured green; spikes of flowers are open, self-coloured lemon (RHS 9A), staminodes are medium size, edges regular, stamen is primrose-yellow, petals yellow, fully self-cleaning, low bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules round; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white; tillering is slow.

The cultivar is a very slow at tillering, and so is in short supply and is very difficult to obtain.

(M) The large, lemon-yellow flowers are copiously produced. It has green leaves with transparent margins. This cultivar is shy at producing rhizomes, so is often difficult to obtain. It was raised by Longwood Gardens in 1977.
Brilliant lemon yellow flowers on green foliage. Great bloomer but limited rhizome production makes for limited availability. Grows to around 3 feet.

Canna ‘India Prince’ is a small Foliage Group cultivar; dark foliage, oval shaped, maroon margin, spreading habit; round main stems, coloured red; spikes of flowers are erect, self-coloured deep-crimson, staminodes are long and narrow, edges regular, petals red with farina, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not true to type, self-pollinating, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is prolific.

Grown primarily for its foliage, ‘India Prince’ has red edges to its large, bright, wavy, green leaves. When younger the leaves have a dusky blush which vanishes as they mature.

JJ originally wanted to call this ‘Taj Mahal’ and told of how he was asked what the name meant. He replied that it was a palace of an  Indian Prince. That name was more popular and won the day with nurserymen.

Canna ‘Indiana’ is a tall Italian Group cultivar; green foliage, large, oblong shaped, spreading habit; oval main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stems, coloured green; flowers are self-coloured orange, edges lightly frilled, petals purple, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is low fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and pink; tillering is average.

Canna Indiana was documented as being in the Alipore Canna Collection when it was taken to Africa by Sydney Percy-Lancaster on his retirement.
