Canna ‘Prince Charmant’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, oval shaped, transparent margin, spreading habit; oval main stems, coloured green + farina; triangular flower stems, coloured green + farina; flowers are reflexed, self-coloured carmine, throat pale yellow with a carmine blush, staminodes are medium size, edges frilled, labellum is carmine, stamen is pale yellow heavily spotted with carmine, style is yellow, petals green, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and pink; tillering is average.

1892. The flower spikes of this courtly Canna nod in graceful arcs, as if bowing to Cinderella. One of the most truly ‘gladiolus-flowered’ of that very old group of Cannas, it’s deep, deep watermelon rose. Extra rare, reintroduced by us from France. Green leaves 3-5 feet (1, $8.50 – 10, $63).

(M) This handsome old cultivar has large, deep watermelon-rose flowers, generously produced. There is a touch of yellow in the throat. The intensity of pigment in this flower makes the colour quite distinct. It has green leaves and a white farina on the flower stem. Raised in 1892 but is only available from specialist nurseries.
