Canna ‘Roi Soleil’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, branching habit; spikes of flowers are open, self-coloured cardinal-red, throat cardinal-red with gold spots, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, petals purple with farina, fully self-cleaning, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is average.

Vilmorin-Andrieux 1930. Smallish flowers but of a very net appearance, blood red but with a trace of yellow in the centre. Green foliage. Medium height 1.2m. One of the earliest Cannas to flower.

(M) This aristocratic plant has vivid cardinal-red flowers with gold markings in the throat. Each flower is quite large with a frilly edge to the petals. The stems are soft purple and bear deep glossy green leaves. It was raised in 1930 by Vilmorin-Andrieux. Relatively easy to obtain.
