Canna ‘Aspremont’ is a small Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, oval shaped, arching habit; round stems, coloured green; flowers are open, self-coloured a Turkey-red, staminodes are medium size, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not true to type, not self-pollinating, capsules globose. Still available in Southern Europe.

Canna ‘Assaut’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; bronze foliage, oval shaped, branching habit; round stems, coloured purple; spikes of flowers are open, self-coloured scarlet, staminodes are large, fully self-cleaning, average bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; seed is fertile, pollen is low fertile, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose.

Grown especially for its distinctive bronze foliage at Kew Gardens, where it is usually placed by the doors of the glass houses.

(syn. ‘Vorwärts’) (T) This handsome old cultivar has large, dark imperial-red flowers and dark bluish leaves with bronze veins. It was raised by Vilmorin-Andrieux in 1920 and stocks are still very vigorous. It is readily available and is he commonest red and bronze available in the British Isles and probably elsewhere. (It also seems to be identical to ‘Hercule’, ‘Vainquer’ and Lafayette’.) Flowers are softer scarlet-red than ‘Black Knight and less reflexed and shaggy. Breeder: Vilmorin-Andrieux

A more recent cultivar has been marketed using the same name, which we can only refer to as CannaCarnaval (2)’.
